Too Much Coffee Amber

Today is a funny day, in the sense that despite Tylenol PM I was able to wake up at 6:30AM and make it into work early to finish up my lab meeting presentation. I bet it has something to do with the fact that I finished my first cup of coffee and promptly poured myself a second cup, which I don’t usually do. Good sleep and a caffeine chaser make for almost nearly unbreakable optimism.

I started my second yoga class yesterday, which was still pretty enjoyable. Sometimes the scientist in me second-guesses what the teacher claims a move is doing, but I follow the “if it feels good, there’s something to it” philosophy. My head DOES feel nice when we hum and chant, and curling up in a ball and putting your forehead on the floor for child’s pose calms me a lot. And last class I fell asleep—just a little—during corpse pose. Falling asleep in public never felt so shamelessly good (it’s better than falling asleep during a seminar). Am I really aligning chakras and releasing toxins? Who knows, and really, who cares? After yoga class, I walk around feeling like I’m encased in a smooth pat of butter: I’m relaxed and nothing can get at me for a little while, which is a miracle in itself.

Ok, back to work!
