I just flew in from San Diego. . .
And boy are my arms tired? Actually, I flew in Saturday, slept in gratuitously on Sunday, and now it's Monday.
I was attending the ASM Beneficial Microbes conference, which was really awesome. I hope to construct a more intelligent summary at some point. For now, I'll leave you with my favorite quote from the conference: "I am born 100% human, but will die 90% bacteria"
Seriously folks. You have an order of magnitude more bacterial cells in your body than human cells.
I was a little bummed that I didn't have more time to explore San Diego. However, I did get to go to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and discover my new favorite animal: The white-faced whistling duck. It sounds like a squeak toy, and is pretty cute to boot.
What really suprised me about being away for a week was:
1) I really am a creature of habit, and get cranky when I don't have my coffee and snacks at the times I'm used to.
2) Along these lines, I'm used to functioning as a team with my sexy co-pilot, Andy. So I felt a bit dysfunctional not having my better half with me. I'll admit it.
Now it's back to life in Madison. My laundry's nearly all done, and I'm back to eating semi-normal food. Still plenty to do, but what else is new?
