This Is Nothing

Insane Graduate School Edition

Body says yeeeoooww!

Although actually, my muscles are complaining a lot less than I *thought* they would. This weekend was chock-full of dance-related activities:

Saturday was a 2-hour Pilates workshop with Eric Sutter at the Madison Multidance Studio. Our dance warm up contains some Pilates, but past that experience, Pilates has always been a bit too expensive for me to get into, so I was glad for the opportunity to focus on it in an affordable way. What struck me most about the workshop was how observant and kind Eric was: skilled instructors continue to amaze me. However, I’m glad I hadn’t checked out his biography beforehand, because I would have been pretty intimidated by all his experience. The fact that he was the original Bowflex spokesmodel is just the tip of the iceberg. I had a great time, and I thanked him for teaching the class like, 3 times over.

Although most of the Pilates we did didn’t feel over-challenging at the time, oh man, I felt it the next day! Sunday was a choreography intensive at the studio again, and fortunately my instructor had taken the Pilates workshop with me, and so was sympathetic of how good or tough the warm-up stretches felt. We had about an hour of learning a new choreography (A sassy one!), and then it was off to campus for UW club choreography practice from 3-5PM. Fortunately it was a choreography I learned during the summer, so it was mostly drill drill drill.

Although all this obliterated my weekend, it felt luxurious to do. Can’t think about everything that stresses you in life when your brain is preoccupied by dance. Ahhh. Now if only I could rent a full-body electric sleeping bag.

Cool things to look forward to this week are seeing Leslie Hall at the Fast Forward Music Festival and taking a minicourse on making jams and jellies with Sarah! The rest is all work, work, work.
